Recently I've seen a lot of older ships on the workshop. Pirate ships and other sailing vessels. Were creators have used rudders to exploit the the wind mechanics in game to create sails. Altough these are fun to play around with, they are not realistic. As a real sailor myself I would like you to add sails to the game. They can be used as a last means of purpolsion when for example your ship is out of fuel and will also take away the totaly unrealistic rudder-sails. My proposal is also that the sails should work like the tank tracks in game. Were a number of hardpoints creates a unique sail, based on were you place them.
Implementing sails may require some re-work of the current wind mechanics. Since in my own oppinion it's both to strong at times being able to fling a giant ship into the air and sometimes to weak. In my own experience wind is often a bit inconsistent whilst following a curve were the wind gets exponentialy stronger and weaker. Strong winds are often created during rain and fog usually calms the wind. Waves are often calmer close to shore but the winds can sometimes be even stronger than out at sea.
It would be really nice if one of these features are implemented for realism
