Sorry you're having trouble, but it is indeed possible to attain an orbit, be it high or low. Infact, the opposite of what you stated is true. You will slowly begin accelerating away from the planet.
There are some useful videos on Youtube explaining how to attain an orbit, and some explaining some of the "weird" phenomena associated with doing so.
