The problem: During career mode the workbench is too powerful. If i crash my helicopter inside the hangar there is no consequence i can just recover. If I crash my helicopter far away the most effective recovery plan is usually to just drag it to a workbench with no consequence except lost time. I can effectively teleport any vehicle without consequence by despawning it at a workbench and flying in a fast jet to another location and then spawning it from a workbench.
The proposed solution is the following.
1. The workbench has two modes: vehicle editor mode and vehicle storage mode.
2. The vehicle editor mode is exactly the same as the current vehicle editor except you cannot spawn the vehicle. Instead you pay the purchase price of the vehicle and one copy of the vehicle is moved to storage mode.
3. Vehicle storage mode:The workbench keeps a record of damaged blocks, fuel, and used items in storage mode. (Used items refers to ropes/hoses/flashlights/first aid etc). Vehicles in storage mode can be viewed but not modified. Blocks can be repaired for a cost and used items can be replenished for a cost. Costs should be balanced so that manual repair is a little cheaper. Vehicles in storage can be spawned into the world at the workbench. Vehicles in storage mode
are tied to a specific location.
4. When a vehicle is recovered to a workbench it is moved to storage mode.
5. Vehicles can be sold from storage mode. The price subtracts the cost of any repair or used items and is further reduced by a depreciation percentage.Vehicles can be sold at full price for 15min after they are purchased. (This is to allow for the normal build, modify, test cycle). After 15min the vehicle depreciates to 90% value. After 1 hour the vehicle depreciates to 50% value.
